Cool! Counter-Strike! That thing I always installed when I wanted to grief on Garry’s Mod roleplay servers! It’s a game? Huh?
I was sitting on my Steam Library at about 2:00 AM and saw Counter-Strike: Source, so I figured I’d give it a go. I started off finding a server that wouldn’t lag for me (30 average ping! yes please!).
I started off my first night of CS:S messing around with the shotgun on de_dust2. I did fairly poorly, managing to snag a few kills off of people reloading or looking the other way. Halfway through my first game, people started mentioning a place called “short”. I was clueless, but I figured I’d pick up on it. They kept talking about this “short” place, so I popped on the mic asking what a “short” was.
This was where my team realized that I was new to the game. Instead of harassing me for not being experienced, they surprised me by informing me that short was a section in the middle of the map.
One player told me to use assault rifles and the desert eagle until I got a solid feel for the game, and it didn’t take long for me to see results. There were a lot of rounds where I couldn’t afford an assault rifle, so I’d use the desert eagle until I found a weapon. I also found a lot of grenades, most of which I’d bounce off a wall back in my face. I really don’t like flashbangs.
